Good, Fast, and Cheap. Can We Finally Have All Three?

AI branding: good, fast, and cheap Venn diagram with a unicorn at a laptop

Is AI the unicorn we’ve been looking for?

Would you rather have 20 headlines in 15 seconds that don’t quite work, or one that says exactly what you want to say to the person you want to reach?

That’s the question I think about when people say AI has solved the Iron Triangle.

In design and marketing, we say good, fast, cheap. You can ONLY pick two.

You can have good and fast, but it won’t be cheap.
You can have fast and cheap, but it won’t be that good.
You can have good and cheap, but it won’t be fast.

I call getting all three the unicorn. Has AI finally given us the unicorn?

You’ve seen the posts. Clone yourself in Claude in under five minutes. Plan 60 days of content in one sitting. The pitch goes something like this: “I gave AI my brand once. Now it writes posts that sound exactly like me and makes graphics that look like I designed them.”

Then comes: “Comment ‘AI’ and I’ll send you the exact process.”

Of course you want the process. So you comment. You try it. And what you get back sounds nothing like you.

Then you see a post in your feed and think, “Oh, that’s ChatGPT.” Or you see a graphic and think, “I can tell they used Claude.” You roll your eyes and keep scrolling.

Why would we think our customers would do anything different?

Creation got faster. Curation still takes taste.

Creating is getting those 20 headlines. Curation is taking what’s there and shaping it until it sounds like you and speaks to the people you want to reach.

Same with design. You can use your brand colors and still end up with something that feels off. Your taste is what helps you see why it feels off. Maybe it’s too busy for the way you want your business to come across. Maybe the words are right, but the layout buries the thing your client needs to see first.

That’s where your style comes in. It gives you direction for what to change and what to carry through, from one piece of marketing to the next. That part has to come from you.

You can develop that skill through trial and error or get help from someone who already knows what to look for. Either way, it’s part of the work.

So has AI given us the unicorn? My answer is still no.

What makes the right clients choose you?

Start by looking at your brand foundation.

Do you have one? Is it working? Is it helping you attract and book the clients you want? Are people getting to know you, like you, and trust you enough to choose you?

If every post feels like starting over, it’s hard to build that recognition. And if you’re getting inquiries from people who don’t understand what you offer or why it’s worth the price, you end up doing all that explaining on the sales call.

A brand foundation gives you something to work from. You know who you want to reach, what they need to hear, and how you want your business to look and sound. You can carry that through your marketing so the right people can see why they’d want to work with you.

If you’re having trouble getting that down, that’s where I come in.

That’s marketing backed by the basics.

FAQ

Can AI create my brand identity?

AI can generate logos, color palettes, and headlines quickly. Deciding what fits your business and the people you want to reach still takes strategy and taste. Give AI a brand foundation to work from, then review and shape what comes back.

What is the Iron Triangle in design and marketing?

Good, fast, cheap: you can pick two. Good and fast costs more. Fast and cheap gives up quality. Good and cheap takes longer.

Why does AI-generated content sound generic?

AI pulls from patterns, so without direction it lands on the most common answer. Your audience, your message, your voice, and your visual style give it direction. That's what a brand foundation holds.

What is a brand foundation?

It's the groundwork your marketing builds on: who you want to reach, what they need to hear, and how your business looks and sounds. It keeps your posts, graphics, and website consistent so people recognize you and trust you enough to book.
